Silver Age

Thomas Heywood

Thomas Heywood wrote a quartet of plays: The Golden Age, The Silver Age, The Brazen Age, and The Iron Age. In the current play, The Silver Age, we get the story of "The Love of Jupiter to Alcmena: The Birth of Hercules, and The Rape of Proserpine. Concluding with the Arraignment of the Moone." The second and third acts of this play resemble versions of the story of Amphitryon as told by Plautus some 1800 years earlier. - Summary by ToddHW
