Laxdæla saga is one of the most popular medieval Icelandic family sagas. It follows some of the major families in tenth-century western Iceland, focusing on the four marriages of the central figure, Gudrun Osvifsdottir. With cameos from memorable women along the way, including Unn the Deep-Minded, Melkorka the Irish slave, and the sword-wielding Breeches-Aud, the saga culminates in a love triangle over Gudrun and the tragedy and revenge that result from it. - Summary by Alison Sawers
