Rope

Patrick Hamilton

Also known as Rope’s End, the thriller Rope is a play by Patrick Hamilton, novelist, playwright, and well-regarded contemporary of Graham Greene and J. B. Priestley. The source for Alfred Hitchock’s movie of the same name, this was one of Hamilton’s most successful plays (the other being Gaslight). Two university students (Brandon and Granillo), obsessed with proving their intellectual superiority, host a party for some friends. All three acts take place in the same room.
