Good Words was an English monthly magazine directed at evangelicals and nonconformists, particularly of the lower middle classes. It contained overtly religious material as well as serialized novels, dialogues, articles on science and art, essays, sketches of travel, and poetry. The content was chosen with an eye to ensuring that the devout could read it on Sundays without sin. The February 1870 issue of Good Words continued two serialized novels, Carlino and Dorothy Fox that were started in the previous issue. The issue contained several travelogues, featuring such places as the Waldensian Valleys (i.e. the country of the Vaudois), Dorsetshire, and the Himalayas. Also included was an analysis of the seeming contradiction of two Bible verses, a poem, a sketch/conversation, and a history of the New Hurrnhut Moravian Church. (Summary by Elsie Selwyn)
