Louis Klopsch was a German-American journalist and publisher, whose most enduring work was the first “red letter” edition of the Bible. Notably he took over The Christian Herald magazine and with Thomas De Witt Talmage as editor greatly extended its circulation. His fund raising campaigns through the Herald raised millions of dollars for relief of Russian famine victims and relief of famines in India. In 1895, Klopsch purchased the floundering Bowery Mission in Chicago and as president turned it around financially. Other works by Louis Klopsch include Daily Light on the Daily Path, a book of daily prayers, and he edited and published A Budget of Christmas Tales by Charles Dickens and others. His broad reading is exhibited in this volume of quotations from a broad range of authors including Shakespeare and Dryden, Longfellow and Burns, Pythagoras and Aristotle, and the Bible, and dozens of others. These quotations are arranged by several hundred topics from Ability and Absolution to Worship, Youth, and Zeal. But then there is Grumbling, Kisses, Poetry, Preaching, Sleep, War, and more. - Summary by Larry Wilson
